Jesse L. Olds Youth Leadership Academy

In 2010, the Chapter instituted the Youth Leadership Academy (YLA) to engage and empower youth in making positive life choices, thus enabling them to maximize personal potential aimed at developing competence and character. The concept of this program is to provide mentoring under the 100 Black Men of America’s concept of “Mentoring over a lifetime.

In November of 2013, the Youth Leadership Academy became the “Jesse L. Olds Youth Leadership Academy” in honor and memory of our beloved Chapter president and his dedication to the organization.  Through collaborative partnerships with schools and other community-based organizations, the Youth Leadership Academy aims to enhance academic performance, social interaction, relationship building, good citizenship, and career opportunities for our youth.

” The concept of this program is to provide mentoring under the 100 Black Men of America’s concept of ‘Mentoring over a lifetime.’ “

Our goal is to develop our youth to become tomorrow’s leaders. Workshops topics include: Personal Vision, Life Skills, Social/coping Skills, Moral Character, Work Ethic, Health and Wellness, Financial Literacy, Time Management, Lifelong Learning, College and Career Readiness, Decision Making, Communication Skills, etc. Typically, youth participants in our program range from Grades 6 through 12.

Workshops are led by our members and guest speakers and are usually scheduled for the second Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Educational excursions as well as visits to a number of colleges and universities are planned throughout the year.  Parents or guardians interested in additional information or would like to inquire about a young person’s participation in the Youth Leadership Academy may contact a member or request an application for consideration.

What is Youth Leadership Academy?

The organization instituted the Youth Leadership Academy (YLA) as an umbrella program to implement “Four For The Future”. It is our intention, through the Youth Leadership Academy, to engage and empower youth in making positive life choices, thus enabling them to maximize personal potential aimed at developing confidence and character. Group mentoring activities opportunities are provided through the Youth Leadership Academy monthly sessions.

Through collaborative partnerships with schools and other community-based organizations, the Youth Leadership aims to enhance academic performance, social interaction, relationship building, and career opportunities for our youth. We offer guidance, support, coaching and encouragement aimed at developing and improving the competence and character of our youth.  We mentor, motivate and lead by example.  We are “real men giving real time” and strive to channel our efforts to support this notion.
